The Development History of Resistors

Resistors are fundamental components in circuits. After testing the conductivity of various materials and discovering the presence of current, early scientists gradually developed the concept of resistance. Scientists have discovered that copper, gold, and aluminum are excellent conductors with low resistance, while air, mica, and ceramics are considered resistors because they can greatly restrict the flow of current. Although industry insiders have long known about its resistance performance, the reliable resistors we know today have never been born until Otis Boykin created the first inexpensive and reliable resistor in 1961, allowing scientists to accurately control the amount of current transmitted to a certain component. With his breakthrough, the resistance of resistors to extreme temperatures and oscillations was greatly reduced, ultimately making low-cost production possible. With the US military, IBM, and numerous consumer electronics manufacturers placing orders to purchase Boykin's new resistors, their presence is ubiquitous from household appliances and computers to guided missiles.
